Advernation is an SEO company in Manhattan. Our address is 1115 Broadway, in the Flatiron District, and we have worked from this borough since 2016. This page is about one job: getting a Manhattan business found by the people a few blocks or a few subway stops away, in a borough where thousands of businesses can share the same handful of streets.

It covers how Google’s local results behave here, what we do about it, a Diamond District client with results, and what decides the cost. Everything the service includes is on the main NYC SEO company page.

Manhattan in figures a business owner can use
- About 1.66 million people live in Manhattan, by the Census Bureau’s estimate for July 2024.
- Only about 21 percent of Manhattan households own a vehicle, against 43.8 percent citywide, according to the State Comptroller’s 2023 figures. Most households here get around without a car.
- The city’s directory of business improvement districts counts about 9,200 businesses in the Grand Central Partnership’s district, 6,500 in the Garment District and 4,000 in the Flatiron NoMad district where we work.
- The same directory counts about 2,600 businesses on West 47th Street between Fifth Avenue and Avenue of the Americas: the two blocks of the Diamond District.
Those four lines explain most of what is different about SEO here. Customers are close, most of them are not driving, and whatever you sell, many others sell it within a short walk.
How Google’s local results behave in Manhattan

Google says its local results, the businesses shown beside a map, are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. In a spread-out town, distance does much of the sorting. In Manhattan it often cannot. When 2,600 businesses sit on two blocks, nearly all of them are equally near the person searching.
What is left to separate them is the other two. Relevance is how well a Business Profile matches the search, and Google asks for complete and detailed business information to judge it. Prominence is how well known the business is, and Google says it rests partly on how many reviews a business has and how many websites link to it. So in Manhattan the detail of the profile, the reviews and the website carry more of the result than the pin on the map.
Google’s own examples of local searches are “salons near me” and “salons open now”. It says a business can show for them because it has provided its address and its hours. In a borough where so few customers drive, wrong hours cost a visit from someone who was already on your block.
Three Manhattan address habits that cost rankings
Google compiles what it shows about a business from the business itself, from the public web and from licensed data. When those sources disagree, the profile can end up wrong. Manhattan addresses disagree with themselves more than most.
- One street, two names. Sixth Avenue is also Avenue of the Americas, and the city’s own directory uses both. Choose the form on your official address and use it on your profile, your website and every listing.
- Floors and suites. Google’s guidelines allow suite and floor numbers in an address and ask for the suite number on the second address line. Ours is #1243. A business upstairs needs that detail written one way everywhere.
- Neighborhood words in the name. It is tempting to add Flatiron, NoMad or Midtown to the name on a listing. Google’s guidelines say a profile’s name must be the real-world name of the business, and give “near SOHO” as an example of location wording that is not permitted. The neighborhood belongs on your pages, not in your name.
Street-level shop or office upstairs
A Manhattan business is usually one of two kinds, and the local work differs for each.
| What differs | Shop or restaurant at street level | Office, studio or showroom upstairs |
|---|---|---|
| Address on the profile | The street address | The street address, with the suite number on the second line |
| Hours | Regular hours and special hours for holidays, kept current | Customer-facing hours. Google says a business that operates only by appointment should not list hours |
| Photographs | The storefront, so a passer-by recognizes it | The building entrance, the way up and the room itself |
| Searches to win first | “Near me” and “open now” searches made on the block | Searches by service and neighborhood, made before the visit |
| Pages on the website | One per product line or menu, plus the location | One per service, each naming the neighborhoods you serve |
What we do for a Manhattan business
Pages that match how Manhattan is searched
Nobody searches for a borough of 1.66 million people when they need a dentist. They search a service with a neighborhood, a cross street or “near me”. We research which of those words your customers use, then give each service one page that names the neighborhoods you really serve: Harlem and Washington Heights are not SoHo or the Lower East Side, and a page should not pretend they are.
The profile, checked against the building
We compare your Google Business Profile with your lease address, your signage and your website, then correct every directory listing to match: street name, floor, suite, phone. The method, with the reviews system that goes with it, is on our local SEO services page.
Links from the neighborhood
The city’s directory lists 27 business improvement districts in Manhattan, from the Alliance for Downtown New York to Washington Heights. Districts, trade associations and neighborhood press are where an honest local link comes from, and Google counts links toward prominence.
Ads while the pages climb
SEO in a crowded borough takes months. If you need calls now, Google Ads can run beside it, with management from $500 per cycle.
A Manhattan client: Silver Gold Refinery

Silver Gold Refinery has been a client since 2008. With the price of gold and silver climbing, it opened another office in the Diamond District to serve people who wanted gold melted or tested and to be paid a premium for it. That is the street with 2,600 businesses on two blocks.
We built the new website and ran a local SEO, SEO and Google Ads campaign around a list of keywords we knew would turn searchers into customers. The refinery reached first place for “Gold Refinery NYC” and the top five nationwide for “Gold Refinery”, and business came in on the day the website and the campaigns launched. The full account is in the Silver Gold Refinery case study.
A second New York client, Golden I Construction, is a renovation contractor in New York City. In October 2026 we replaced its hacked website with a clean rebuild: 29 pages and 70 articles rewritten, every old address kept, and Lighthouse scores of 98 to 100 on a phone. That account is in the Golden I Construction case study, and all five are on the case studies page.
What decides the cost and the time in Manhattan
We quote monthly SEO plans for a Manhattan business after the free audit, with no contract. Get a quote.
Two things decide both. The first is how many searches you want and who holds them now: a first page of businesses with years of reviews and links takes longer to enter than one held by thin listings. The second is the state of your own site and profile. We work with no contract and give the price upfront, after the free SEO audit. Plan on three to six months before SEO really shows. Our published prices are on the pricing page.
Where we came from

Christopher Maddaloni, a former electrician, started Advernation in Flushing, Queens, on New Year’s Eve 2007. The agency opened its first office there in 2010 and moved to Manhattan in 2016, where it began giving lunch trainings in person for local businesses and winning some of them as clients. We have no office outside Manhattan. The other boroughs have their own pages: Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island.

Questions people ask
Do you have an office in Manhattan?
Yes. Advernation LLC is at 1115 Broadway #1243, New York, NY 10010, in the Flatiron District, and has been in Manhattan since 2016. The agency began in Flushing, Queens, in 2007.
Can a Manhattan business show on the map across the whole borough?
Not evenly. Distance from the person searching is one of the three things Google says it weighs for local results, so you will show most often near your address. Pages written for the other neighborhoods you serve can rank in the ordinary results under the map, which are not tied to your pin in the same way.
My business is on an upper floor. Can it still show in local results?
Yes. Google’s guidelines allow floor and suite numbers in an address and ask for the suite number on the second address line. What matters is that the address is your real location and is written the same way on your profile, your website and your directory listings. Photographs of the entrance help a customer find the door.
Should my listing say Sixth Avenue or Avenue of the Americas?
Use the form in your official address and keep to it everywhere. Google asks for the precise, accurate address of the real-world location. The trouble starts when the profile says one name and the website or a directory says the other.
How long does SEO take in Manhattan?
Plan on three to six months before it really shows in calls and leads, depending on how competitive your business is and how aggressive the plan. Google’s own starter guide says some changes take effect in hours and others take several months. Ads can cover the gap.
What does SEO cost for a Manhattan business?
It depends on how many services and neighborhoods you want to be found for and on who holds those searches today. We give one price upfront after the free audit, and there is no contract. Google Ads management starts at $500 per cycle. Published prices are on the pricing page.
