Advernation does SEO, local SEO and web design for Staten Island businesses. We should say at once what we are not: we are not on the island. Our office is in Manhattan, across the harbor, and the agency began in Queens in 2007. If you want a studio you can walk into on the island, this page will tell you honestly when that is the better choice.

What we bring is search work measured in calls and leads, by an agency started by a former electrician. This page covers how Google’s local results behave on Staten Island, what we would do, and what it costs. The full service is on our NYC SEO company page.

Staten Island in figures
- Just under half a million people live on Staten Island (498,212 by the Census Bureau’s estimate for July 2024), the fewest of the five boroughs.
- 82.6 percent of Staten Island households own a vehicle, the highest share of the five boroughs. The citywide figure is 43.8 percent and Manhattan’s is about 21 percent (State Comptroller, 2023 figures).
- The city’s directory lists four business improvement districts here: Forest Avenue in West Brighton (149 businesses), New Dorp Lane between Richmond Road and Hylan Boulevard (157), the South Shore district in Annadale, Great Kills and Eltingville (316) and the West Shore district in Bloomfield and Chelsea (72).
- The Staten Island Ferry runs free between the island and Lower Manhattan every day.
A borough that drives

Everything about local search on Staten Island follows from the second figure. In Manhattan about one household in five has a car. Here four in five do, and a customer who drives chooses where to go before leaving the house. That changes what a Google Business Profile has to do.
- Directions are a result. Google’s performance report for a profile counts how many people asked for directions, alongside calls and website clicks. For an island shop, direction requests are the number to watch, and we report them.
- Parking belongs on the profile. Google’s own tips for local ranking name parking among the details a complete profile should give.
- Hours have to be right. Nobody drives across the island on the strength of hours that might be wrong. Google asks for regular hours and special hours for holidays.
- “Near me” still means near. Google says that when a customer does not share a location, it uses what it knows about where they are.
How Google’s local results behave on Staten Island
Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. Distance is measured from the customer who is searching, so the island sorts itself by shore. For a search made in Tottenville, the businesses of the South Shore, around Annadale, Great Kills and Eltingville, are the near ones. For a search made in West Brighton, the near ones are on Forest Avenue and the north of the island.
Relevance has an island flavor too. When we looked at the first page for our own trade’s search, “web design Staten Island”, in October 2026, all ten results had Staten Island in the title. When a search names the island, Google answers with pages that name it too. A business whose website and profile talk only about “NYC” is not one of them.
And because customers drive, a trade or a shop here can honestly serve the whole island. Google lets a business that serves customers at its address and also goes out to them show the address and list up to 20 service areas by city, postal code or other area. We keep your address on the profile and add the areas you cover.
Staten Island names that confuse a directory
Google compiles what it shows about a business from the business, the public web and licensed data, so every listing of your address has to agree. These are the island’s traps.
- Richmond. Staten Island is Richmond County, and it has a Richmond Road and a Richmond Avenue, which are different streets. Richmond Hill, meanwhile, is a neighborhood in Queens.
- Chelsea. The West Shore district covers Bloomfield and Chelsea. Chelsea is also the name of a Manhattan neighborhood.
- Broadway. The Forest Avenue district ends at Broadway, in West Brighton. Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx each have a Broadway as well.
- The city line of the address. Island addresses read Staten Island, NY. A listing that says New York, NY for the same street is a second address to a machine.
What we do for a Staten Island business
The profile, built for a driver
Categories, services, hours, parking, photographs of the building as you approach it, and posts. Then the address, written once and matched across your website and every directory. The method is on our local SEO services page.
Reviews from island customers
Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help a business’s local ranking. We set up a system for asking every customer, with a link or a QR code. Google forbids offering anything in exchange, so it is a plain request.
Pages that say where you work
One page for each service, naming Staten Island and the parts of it you cover: New Dorp, Great Kills, Eltingville, Tottenville, West Brighton. Where there is something true to say about one area, it gets its own page. Copies with the name swapped are what Google’s spam policies call doorway abuse.
Ads and the trades
Google Ads can bring calls while SEO builds, with management from $500 per cycle. If you are a contractor, plumber, electrician or landscaper, start with your trade’s page under industries.
Web design for Staten Island businesses
We build websites as well as rank them. Our newest rebuild is for Golden I Construction, a New York renovation contractor whose hacked site we replaced in October 2026. We rewrote 29 pages and 70 articles and kept every old address, and the new site scores 98 to 100 in Lighthouse on a phone. A site for an island business is built to the same mark: fast on a phone, directions and a tap-to-call number at the top, a page for each service, and Staten Island in the titles. See web design.
An island studio, or an agency in Manhattan
The first page for “web design Staten Island” is held mostly by studios that present themselves as Staten Island firms. For some jobs a neighbor is the right call. Here is a fair way to weigh it.
| What to weigh | A studio on the island | Advernation, in Manhattan |
|---|---|---|
| Meeting in person | Easy: a short drive | By arrangement. Day to day it is phone, email and the monthly report |
| Main business | Often websites first | Search first: SEO, local SEO and Google Ads, with web design to support them |
| How results are reported | Ask what the report contains | Calls, lead submissions, traffic and keyword positions, every month |
| Terms | Ask about contracts and who owns the site | No contracts, pricing upfront |
| Right for | A new site designed with someone you can sit beside | A business that has a site and wants more calls from Google |
Proof, stated plainly
We have no published case study from a Staten Island client today. The results we can show are on the case studies page: a Diamond District refinery that reached first place for “Gold Refinery NYC” and has been a client since 2008, a New York renovation contractor, and three clients outside the city.

Questions people ask
Do you have an office on Staten Island?
No. Advernation is at 1115 Broadway in Manhattan. The agency began in Flushing, Queens, in 2007. We work with Staten Island businesses by phone and email, with a report every month.
Should my website say NYC or Staten Island?
Staten Island, first. When we looked at the first page for “web design Staten Island” in October 2026, all ten results named the island in the title. When a customer’s search names the island, the pages Google showed us named it too. Say NYC as well where it is true.
Can my Google listing cover the whole island?
If you travel to customers, yes. You keep your address on the profile and add service areas: Google allows up to 20, by city, postal code or other area. Distance from the searcher still counts, so you will show most often near your own address.
Does parking information really matter on a Google profile?
On Staten Island, yes. More than four households in five own a vehicle, and Google’s own tips for local ranking list parking among the details a complete profile should give. Google says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show in local results.
Should I hire a Staten Island web designer instead?
If you want to plan a new site face to face, an island studio is a sensible choice. If you have a site and want more calls from Google, that is what we do. Whoever you choose, ask what the monthly report contains and whether there is a contract.
