SEO and web design for Queens businesses, from an agency that started in Flushing

Advernation does SEO and web design for Queens businesses. The agency was started in Flushing on New Year’s Eve 2007 and opened its first office at 33-70 Prince Street in 2010. Since 2016 we have worked from Manhattan, and we no longer have an office in Queens. What we kept is a working knowledge of how this borough is addressed, searched and sold to.

This page covers that: the way Queens addresses confuse Google, how local results behave across the borough, what we build and write for a Queens business, and what it costs. The full service is described on our NYC SEO company page.

Where Advernation began

Christopher Maddaloni, a former electrician, started Advernation on a sofa in Flushing. At first he worked more like a freelancer, taking smaller jobs from other agencies, and he landed clients of his own in 2008. By 2010 the agency had opened its first office at 33-70 Prince Street in Flushing. It moved to Manhattan in 2016 and is now at 1115 Broadway.

Queens in figures

The towers of Long Island City in Queens seen from above over snow-covered rooftops
  • About 2.3 million people live in Queens, by the Census Bureau’s estimate for July 2024. Only Brooklyn has more.
  • 61.4 percent of Queens households own a vehicle, against 43.8 percent citywide and about 21 percent in Manhattan (State Comptroller, 2023 figures). Your customers both walk and drive.
  • The city’s directory of business improvement districts counts about 1,500 businesses on the 30 blocks of the Downtown Flushing Transit Hub district, 600 in Downtown Jamaica, 422 along Jamaica Avenue in Woodhaven, 338 on Steinway Street in Astoria and 333 on Myrtle Avenue in Ridgewood.
  • Other districts in that directory: 82nd Street in Jackson Heights, Bell Boulevard in Bayside, Queens Boulevard in Sunnyside, Jackson Avenue and Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City, and the GatewayJFK district in Springfield Gardens.

How Queens is addressed, and why Google cares

Google says it compiles what it shows about a business from the business itself, the public web and licensed data, and that businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show in local results. Queens addresses give those sources four ways to disagree.

  • The neighborhood stands in for the city. Our first address read Flushing, NY, not Queens, NY. The city’s own address search labels Steinway Street addresses Astoria, Bell Boulevard addresses Bayside and Jackson Avenue addresses Long Island City. A listing that says Queens in one place and the neighborhood in another is two addresses to a machine.
  • The house number has a hyphen. 33-70 Prince Street is one number. The Postal Service notes that hyphenated numbers are prevalent in New York City and says the hyphen should not be removed. A directory that drops it prints a different number.
  • One number, three streets. The Downtown Flushing district alone includes 39th Avenue and 40th Road. An Avenue, a Road and a Drive can share a number, so a dropped word moves your business.
  • Names shared with other places. Myrtle Avenue has one business district in Ridgewood and another in Brooklyn. Jamaica Avenue runs through Woodhaven and Jamaica and on into Brooklyn. Long Island City is a Queens neighborhood, and it is not what a customer means by Long Island.

The first thing we do for a Queens client is write the address down once, exactly as it appears on the lease and the sign, and make the profile, the website and every directory listing match it.

How Google’s local results behave in Queens

Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and that distance is measured from the customer who is searching. Queens is wide. A search made in Bayside starts from Bayside, and a shop in Astoria is a long way off on that map.

Two things follow. When a customer types the neighborhood (“dentist Jackson Heights”), relevance does the work: Google matches the search to profiles and pages that are plainly about that place. And when your business travels to customers, as a contractor’s does, the profile should say where. Google lets a business that serves customers at its address, and also goes out to them, show the address and list up to 20 service areas by city, postal code or other area. We keep your address on the profile and add the neighborhoods you serve.

Queens listings are not all in English. When we looked at the map results for “web design Queens” in October 2026, one of the three businesses Google showed was listed under a Chinese name. One rule to know if your sign is in two languages: Google’s guidelines do not allow the same business name repeated in several scripts or languages on a profile, even where the storefront shows it that way.

SEO for a Queens business

A page for each neighborhood you really serve

An electrician based in Woodhaven who also works in Ridgewood, Sunnyside and Jamaica needs Google to connect him to each. We write one page per service and name the neighborhoods on it, or one page per neighborhood where there is something true to say about the work there. Google’s spam policies name pages that merely list cities and regions, and near-copies aimed at different places, as abuse. Each page has to earn its place.

The profile, the reviews and the listings

We manage the Google Business Profile, set up a system for asking every customer for a review, and audit your directory listings for the hyphen, the neighborhood name and the street type. The method is on our local SEO services page.

Trades and service areas

With six in ten households owning a car, Queens customers will drive to a showroom, and a Queens contractor will drive to them. If you are in a trade, see the page for it under industries: the founder was an electrician, and those pages are written from that side of the counter.

Web design for Queens businesses

The new Golden I Construction homepage.

We design and build websites as well as rank them. For Silver Gold Refinery we built the site that reached first place for “Gold Refinery NYC”. For Medlin Ramps a redesign was part of going from very few leads a day to 3 to 10. In October 2026 we rebuilt the site of Golden I Construction, a New York renovation contractor: 29 pages and 70 articles rewritten, every old address kept, and Lighthouse scores of 98 to 100 on a phone.

A site for a Queens business gets the address block written exactly as on the profile, a page for each service and area, a phone number that dials when tapped, and main content that loads within the 2.5 seconds Google sets as its mark for a good page. What we build and how is on the web design page.

Proof, stated plainly

We do not have a published case study from a Queens client today, and we will not borrow one. The New York results we can show are a Diamond District refinery and a renovation contractor, with three more from outside the city, all on the case studies page.

Questions people ask

Do you have an office in Queens?

Not today. Advernation was started in Flushing in 2007 and had its first office at 33-70 Prince Street from 2010. Since 2016 the agency has been in Manhattan, at 1115 Broadway. We work with Queens businesses from there.

Should my Google listing say Queens or the name of my neighborhood?

Use your official address, which in Queens normally names the neighborhood: Flushing, Astoria, Jamaica. Google asks for the precise, accurate address of the real-world location. Then use exactly that form on your website and in every directory, so the sources Google reads agree.

Does the hyphen in a Queens address matter?

Yes. The Postal Service says the hyphen in a hyphenated house number should not be removed. For search, the risk is inconsistency: a profile that says 33-70 and a directory that says 3370 can look like two different places.

Can one Google Business Profile cover all of Queens?

Google’s guidelines say there should be only one profile per business. If you also travel to customers, Google lets you add up to 20 service areas by city, postal code or other area, within about two hours’ drive of your base. Distance from the searcher still counts, so expect to show most often near your address.

My sign is in English and another language. Can the profile name show both?

No. Google’s guidelines list repeating a business name in several scripts or languages as not permitted, even when the storefront signage shows it that way. Choose the name your customers know you by.

How much does a website for a Queens business cost?

It depends on the number of pages, whether old addresses must be kept and whether the writing is ours or yours. We give the price upfront after looking at the site you have, and there is no contract. See web design and pricing.
