When you enter a search in google, you get texts, images, and videos. Now in addition to these regular search results, playable podcasts will now show up when people are specifically searching for podcasts.
Now according to Google Podcast’s product manager,Zack Reneau-Wedeen,“Starting today, when you’re searching for a podcast about a topic on Google, such as“podcasts about Awkwafina” or“InstantPot recipe podcasts,” we’ll show you playable episodes in Search results alongside web pages, news, images and videos. “
Google says that these podcast results are based on Google’s understanding of what the content of the podcast is about.
It was reported earlier this year that Google has been automatically transcribing podcast episodes. This allowed people to find podcasts easily in the Google Podcast app. Now with this same technology, Google is now able to understand what the content of the podcast is and suggest the proper episode that correlates with the search result.
Google also said that eventually, users won’t need to mention the word “podcast” to receive these playable podcast episodes in the search results. The podcasts will then surface like any other content does when a topic is searched.
This feature will also be coming to Google Podcasts and Google Assistant as well.
This update will also allow content creators to identify what other apps that users can listen to their podcasts as well. This allows podcast creators to identify paid content so that those episodes don’t show up in search results.
